FAQs

Are you a resupply point for the Continental Divide Trail (CDT) or Colorado Trail?

Yes! Pagosa Springs is a well-known resupply stop for CDT thru-hikers crossing the San Juan Mountains, and we're happy to help. Whether you're picking up a mail drop, restocking freeze-dried meals, or need a gear repair before pushing on toward the Weminuche, our staff includes thru-hikers who know exactly what you're going through.

Can I have mail sent to ski and bow rack if I am hiking the CDT?

Yes! We love to support our CDT hikers and can receive USPS packages and mail at PO Box 730 Pagosa Springs CO81147. Fed Ex/UPS package can be shipped to Ski and Bow Rack, 354 E Pagosa St in Pagosa Springs, CO 81147.

Is there a Shuttle for CDT Hikers?

While Pagosa Springs does not offer a shuttle for CDT Hikers, our staff are more than happy to pick up and drop off hikers from wolf creek pass. Please give us a call (970) 264-2370 and we'd love to help out.

What hiking and camping gear do you carry?

We stock a full range of gear for everything from a quick day hike to a week deep in the backcountry: tents, tarps, and bivys; sleeping bags and pads; daypacks and multi-day packs; stoves, fuel, and cook kits; freeze-dried meals; water treatment; headlamps; trekking poles; SOS beacons; and outdoor clothing and footwear.

Do you rent camping or backpacking gear, or is it purchase only?

Our camping and hiking gear is available for purchase. If you're looking to rent equipment for winter activities, check out our ski, snowshoe, and tubing rentals. For hiking and camping, we're your one-stop gear shop.

What's the best gear for hiking in the San Juan Mountains?

It depends on elevation and season, afternoon thunderstorms are common in summer, and nights stay cool even in July. Come talk to us. We'll help you dial in layers, rain protection, and the right pack size based on where you're headed and how long you'll be out.

Can you help me plan a hike or backpacking trip in the Weminuche Wilderness?

Absolutely! this is one of our favorite things to do. Stop by and we'll pull out maps, share trail notes, and help you put together a route that matches your experience level and timeframe, whether that's a day hike or a week in the Weminuche.

Do you sell freeze-dried meals and backpacking food?

Yes, we carry a solid selection of freeze-dried meals and backpacking food from popular brands like Peak Refuel, Farm to Summit and Good to Go. These are perfect for multi-day trips or as an easy add to your pack before heading out.

Is Pagosa Springs a good base for car camping with family?

Definitely. There are established campgrounds throughout the San Juan National Forest within a short drive of town, many suited well to families. We can help you find a spot and make sure you've got the right gear — tents, sleeping bags, camp kitchen setup — for a comfortable trip. Stop by to speak with our friendly staff full of expert knowledge and receive a complementary map.

Do I need a permit to camp or hike in the San Juan National Forest or Weminuche Wilderness?

Most dispersed camping and day hiking in the San Juan National Forest doesn't require a permit, but regulations can vary by trailhead and time of year. We can point you toward current forest service guidance when you stop in, or you can check with the San Juan National Forest office directly.

What water treatment options do you carry for backpacking?

We stock filters, purifiers by Katedyn, Sawyer and Platypus along with chemical treatment options to fit different trip styles and budgets. If you're not sure what's right for your trip, just ask and we'll help you match it to your route and water sources.

Do you sell trekking poles and SOS beacons?

Yes, we carry both. Black diamond or Leki Trekking poles are a smart addition for any multi-day trip or steep terrain. SOS beacons by Garmin and Zoleo are worth considering if you're heading into more remote sections of the Weminuche or CDT where cell coverage is unreliable.
